Our images cover all types of dames, clowns and pantomime characters including Dan Leno, Jack Tripp, Twiggy, Cliff Richard, Frankie Howerd, Harry H. Corbett, Geraldine Chaplin, Frankie Vaughan, Arthur Askey, Dickie Henderson, John Inman, Hugh Paddick, Clive Rowe and Dick Emery. |

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (January 29 1860 – July 15 1904) is considered to be one of the greatest short-story writers in the history of world literature. His four classics, The Seagull, Uncle Vanya, The Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard reflect his position that the role of an artist was to ask questions, not to answer them. Chekhov practised as a doctor throughout most of his literary career: "Medicine is my lawful wife," he once said, "and literature is my mistress." |

The Little Sweep by the English composer Benjamin Britten with a libretto by Eric Crozier embodies the two major preoccupations that informed Britten’s life and work, opera and music for children. This popular work which is arguably Britten’s operatic counterpart to The Young Persons Guilde to the Orchestra, will be performed on the 14-15th November at the Aldeburgh Festival 60 years after it was first seen on 14th June 1949. The joy of singing and making music as a means of developing talent, discipline, and self-confidence, especially among children, is a given and we have the photographic evidence! |

20 years Bette Davis (April 5, 1908 – October 6, 1989) Until the late 1940s, she was one of American cinema's most celebrated leading ladies, known for her forthright manner, clipped vocal style and ubiquitous cigarette! Ten years after her death, Davis was placed second, behind Katharine Hepburn, on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest female stars of all time. |
