My Watermill Story by Jill Fraser

It has been nearly four years since the death of Jill Fraser MBE, the universally admired and much-loved Artistic Director of Newbury’s Watermill Theatre. My Watermill Story is her account, through writings and notes she made during her 25 years at the helm, of this highly regarded theatre.

Jill inspired the greatest respect and the deepest loyalty from everyone who knew her and this beautifully written book provides a very personal, warm and funny insight into the running of a regional producing theatre. For those of you who love the theatre or have had the good fortune to see a Watermill production The Watermill Story is a must. Profits from the sale of the book will be donated to Breast Cancer Care and The Watermill Theatre.

Elvis Presley (8 January 1935 – 16 August 1977)
His twin brother, Jesse Garon, was stillborn, leaving Elvis to grow up as an only child. With a sound and style that uniquely combined his diverse musical influences and blurred and challenged the social and racial barriers of the time, ‘the King’ was the instigator of a whole new era of American music and popular culture.

Albert Camus (7 November 1913 – 4 January 1960) was a French author, philosopher, journalist and human rights campaigner who, in 1957, became the second youngest recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature. Camus is often cited as a proponent of existentialism but he would say that his whole life was devoted to opposing the philosophy of nihilism, the support of individual freedom and the abolition of capital punishment.

Death of Cecil Beaton,( 14 January 1904 - 18 January 1980) British photographer and theatrical designer. Vogue bought and published his first photograph which Beaton recalled as ‘a slightly out-of-focus snapshot of George ‘Dadie’ Rylands as Webster’s Duchess of Malfi standing in the sub-aqueous light outside the men’s lavatory of the ADC Theatre, Cambridge.” It was not until after the war that he tackled the stage, designing sets, costumes and lighting. His acclaimed costumes for Lerner and Loewe's My Fair Lady (1956), led to two Lerner and Loewe film musicals, Gigi (1958) and My Fair Lady (1964), both of which earned Beaton the Academy Award for Costume Design.
